New Productivity Blog

This blog has always been a bit of a mixed bag of topics, but the ones that always got peoples attention were the Getting Things Done posts, and so as I focus more on that side of things, I moved into my own domain and setup up my Protocol 80 Productivity Blog. Any future productivity content will be posted there on a much more regular basis.

I've just lost my passion for Ruby...

Yes, it’s true. Right now, Ruby just doesn’t push my buttons – Sure, it’s a wiggy little product from japan, which gives it almost instant kudos. But, right now I want more then just the basics. With PHP I’m able to very quickly throw some very advanced features into my new sites which in Ruby on Rails I would have great difficulty in, because I don’t know enought about the “out of sight” bits that you never need to bother with for a basic application.

In time, I may revisit it if I need to throw a basic database driven site together, but for more advanced things, PHP just let me get results much faster, and which I’m much happier with as a whole.

Keeping the work flowing

I have a fairly major problem with procrastination, for several reasons, but I’m leaning slow to deal with it.

Now, at the moment my big push is to start doing something, update my blog and 43things, write little snippets of code into my libs that are powering my new site just to get into the habit of working on anything at all, so the shift to more productive and useful projects isn’t such a shock to the system. At least doing something is better then just drifting over blankly into more pointless and less productive forms of provrastination.

As with most things right now, it’ll start to get better after next week when I have some space of my own more. But for now I can see some very real results of my efforts and so it’s a more encouraging direction to head in.

Happyism Number 7

After much to long a wait, Happyism Number 7 gets awarded to: Dancing in Clubs

I never used to dance in clubs, I didn’t know how. Then, one very interesting night a couple of summers ago, something wonderful happened. (The curious can ask about my “Fuzzy Clarity” Blog post) Since then, it’s not that I’ve become any good at dancing, but I now know that I don’t have to be, because really, no one else knows what they are doing either.

I still need to work on dancing with the ladies better, one of the down sides of been single again – but for now, I’m more then happy to do my own thing and throw some shapes when ever the mood takes me.

A Fresh Aproach

I’m on to day 3 of my radical move to organize and promote my blogs, and websites. I have the first part of my code base for up in place, with a really simple post comming out of the database.

I was tempted to use ruby on rails, and then cake (A PHP ‘rails’ clone) but I like the control I have by doing it all by hand – I want to do some pretty complex things down the line, and I’m more comfortable when I know how all the code is working end to end.

It’s like that I’ll use ruby on rails for one of the “satilite” blogs though, once the whole network starts to build up.

So at the moment, my blogging flow is a little slow – but, it’s building back up and the foundations of my new mini empire are forming, so I’m hopeful about where I’ll end up in the next few weeks.
